BIS is an educational trust, overseen by a Council of Trustees and a Board of Governors. It does not have shareholders and all profits are reinvested to improve the school. We are members of CIS (The Confederation of International Schools), FOBISSEA (the Federation of British Schools in South and East Asia), HMC (The Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference), COB and IBO and are under regular UK inspection.
BIS has been present in Jakarta for 38 years and moved to a new, purpose-built location in 1994. Set in south-west Jakarta, the campus occupies 18 hectares of green-field site and has attractive, well-equipped facilities including an Olympic size swimming pool, overlooked by the whole school staff room!
Currently BIS has a role of 1,300 children aged 3 to 18. We have students from over 40 countries, who follow courses based upon the UK National Curriculum up to age 16 and complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma thereafter. Over a third of our students come from the UK or Australia/New Zealand, and English is the language of instruction.
Academic standards are high throughout the school in IGCSE, GCSE and IB examinations. The IB Diploma pass rate is normally 100% which places BIS in the top 5% of IB schools worldwide and our overall performance is comparable to good independent schools in the UK. We are dedicated to education in a broad sense. The school year is packed with sporting and cultural activities and students enjoy a stimulating environment where internationalism is fostered.
Teachers at BIS come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some are experienced international school teachers, whilst others have joined us directly from the UK system. There are over 120 teachers. They all share a common belief in the benefits of international schooling and are committed to providing the best education possible for our students.
BIS recruits well qualified, experienced career professionals with relevant National Curriculum, IGCE, GCSE and IB experience and contributions to co-curricular programmes are essential. Outstanding teachers from other backgrounds will be considered if the applicant is willing to learn and work within the BIS system and ethos. The remuneration package reflects the status and quality of this internationally renowned school.
